Historian Lillian Faderman has built a stunning narrative of the gay rights movement in the USA. She describes the lives and actions of key organisers in the movement, bringing events together in context. From McCarthyism in the 1950s, through the Stonewall riots and the AIDS crisis, to marriage equality in the 21st century, Faderman describes the history of the modern American LGBT community in vivid detail. Her work is fantastically well-researched and well-referenced, covering the protests, campaigns, riots and legal battles that paved the way for LGBT rights in the United States and around the world.

I think "revolution" is not a good choice of words, this is an excellent chronicle of legal reform, focusing on civil rights such as marriage and the military, and generally giving short shrift to more radical activism, AIDS activism, and trans history (which happen to be the things I'm most interested in). It is extremely well-researched and well-written, if those are the things you are interested in.
