Steven Gould's HELM starts out with an action sequence that whets one's curiosity to find out 'what happens to Leland next?' The story shares a few similarities with his JUMPER series ( downtrodden, heavily bullied protagonist). This book is a 'should read', for if one is patient, Gould does not disappoint). Aikido enthusiasts should appreciate the action sequences.

This is a good book. It has been a few years since I last read it, but it is definitely a perennial favorite. If you like Helm, you should read Wildside, which is another great Steven Gould book.
