Clara Solberg's world shatters when her husband and their four-year-old daughter are in a car crash, killing Nick while Maisie is remarkably unharmed. The crash is ruled an accident - until the coming days, when Maisie starts having night terrors that make Clara question what really happened on that fateful afternoon. Tormented by grief and her obsession that Nick's death was far more than just an accident, Clara is plunged into a desperate hunt for the truth. Who would have wanted Nick dead? And, more important, why? Clara will stop at nothing to find out - and the truth is only the beginning of this twisted tale of secrets and deceit.

I kept expecting something to happen...anything? The ending was just dumb. The only realistic ending I can see would be involuntary commitment until she overcomes her issues. Anyone besides me wondering why she didn't get arrested for the baseball bat incident?

This book was very disappointing. I've read other books by this author which were very good, and so I pounced on this when I saw it on the shelf at the library.

The premise of this book is great, but the execution is lacking and the 2 main characters are so frustrating that I spent a good deal of time wanting to reach into the page and smack them.

Clara is in complete denial about what has happened to her husband, to the point that she's doing harm to her daughter by avoiding being honest with her. And she makes a couple of choices with both her daughter and newborn son that, frankly, would warrant a visit from Child Protective Services. Nick is reckless and careless, and immature, and his poor choices and impulsive behavior put his family in jeopardy. I think the reader is supposed to think of him as a boyish, charming scamp that you just can't help but love, but he certainly didn't come across to me that way.

In addition, this book left many loose threads and unanswered questions. Very disappointing. I hope it's a fluke from this author, because her other books have been fantastic.

Confined to the couch all day as a slave to the flu, I decided to pick this book up considering my love for "The Good Girl". I read this book in one day, practically one sitting and was left rather disappointed in the ending. I agree with other reviewers about the main character being irrational in her thought process. Frankly, I was hoping for one of the endings that she came up with but was left wondering why I just spent 12 hours reading this only to be left with a lousy ending. It clearly kept my interest, however, I was mainly focused on hurrying to finish it just to say I read a book in one day (something I had never done before). I would recommend this book but only if you have nothing better to do or if you're into disappointing endings.

I've enjoyed her other books, but this was my favorite. I gobbled it up too quickly!

Overwritten and overwrought.

A mess. The main character finds out things she didn't know about her husband after his accidental (?) death, and spends the whole book being irrational and impulsive. Unfamiliar woman's name overheard - OH NO, MY HUSBAND MUST HAVE BEEN HAVING AN AFFAIR AND WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE ME. Odd bank activity - OH NO MY HUSBAND WAS AN EMBEZZLER AND MUST HAVE BEEN PLANNING TO LEAVE ME. Really, every little factoid gets the wife overdramatizing and speculating in the stupidest possible ways. There are a handful of shifty people in her and her husband's life but nothing to justify this level of paranoia and suspicion. No real plot except for the wife careening from wild idea to wild idea.

It's a good beach book. Frothy, didn't much like the main characters and it was too long. Sort of an illogical plot.

Found the story very compelling and enjoyed the way it flipped back and forth between husband and wife, before and after. However was a bit let down by the ending, thought there were a few things left hanging that you want to be resolved

Mary Kubica has done it again!! I really enjoy reading her books everyone has been great, easy read that I didn't want to put down. Her writing reminds me of Paula Hawkins but not quite as much detail in her story like Hawkins. I was able to figure out the plot twist fairly early on but it's hard to find a book that I can't figure it out quickly.

Very disappointing. Couldn't wait to finish this book. Would not recommend.
