The DVD box headlines "From Elmore Leonard...". I was expecting (at least) an amusing throwaway in the style of Quentin Tarantino. Wrong!!! This is an infantile piece of drool that belongs in the Disney canon fit for a 5 year old. I should have known better as Jenny Aniston is well known for playing parts that amount to leaden mush. So sad.

Not the comedy I thought it would be, but it did have its funny moments. Great twist at the end.

A very stylish crime flick.

Stayed pretty true to Elmore's book "The Switch" which was a better choice for the title in mho. (See a couple of jokes that are not in the book in "Quotes.") JA portrayed a bored apathetic homemaker with a spoiled teenager and a controlling hubby but became feisty after kidnapped for ransom by a trio of eccentric criminals. Agree with other comments that the final minutes was one super twist that made both the novel and film rewarding. Note, some pointed to the movie's similarity to "Ruthless People 1986" but Elmore's book was published on 1978.

Wasn't impressed at first but it turned out to be pretty good.

This movie started out kind of slow however it turned out to be a pretty good movie and did not expect the ending at all! I would definitely watch it again.

An odd jumble of crime comedy and dark drama, LIFE OF CRIME centers on a botched kidnapping, similar to that of FARGO on the surface but not quite as good. Failing to collect ransom and struggling to work together, the kidnappers operate on all different levels, one too sensitive and friendly, another a womanizer prone to flipping the switch, and the last a nutty Nazi sympathizer with aggressive tendencies and loyalty to no one. Its ensemble is fairly solid with Jennifer Aniston accepting a smarter and more sophisticated role than she typically accepts, along with the well-cast John Hawkes and Tim Robbins. Of all of the performances, Isla Fisher is arguably the weakest link in the chain, there to instigate conflict without motive. But the main problem with LIFE OF CRIME is that it doesn't fit any genre and falls into perpetual overlap. It would have been better as a full-on seventies-era comedy, scrapping the grittier elements and focusing on the dynamics between the kidnappers, the kidnapped, and those who refuse to pay. But instead it loses momentum getting bogged down in heavy themes and lingering close-ups. Too much gloom and doom meant not enough room for smirks and smiles. While I didn't mind watching it, I wouldn't recommend LIFE OF CRIME.

Interesting, a quiet movie that actually had a dialogue and the ending was unexpected.
For people who are a bit more thoughtful. Aniston was good.

Really stupid but mildly entertaining. Only proves why Brad dumped Jennifer, , no one else is so desperate as to act in such mild boring almost worthless film.

Barely interesting but I did watch this to the end. The ending was the VERY best part! I did a short rewind and watched it a second time. Good for a laugh!

Most of memorable quotes were similar to the novel's:

However, a couple of animated jokes not in the book but in the film:

Joke 1: Eighteenth hole. The guy's standing over his tee shot for what seems like an eternity. Finally his partner says, "What is taking you so long? "Hit the damn ball!" The guys says, "Well, my wife is up there watching from the clubhouse, "and I wanna make this a perfect shot." His partner says, "Give me a break!" "There ain't a snowball's chance in hell "you're gonna hit her from here!"
Joke 2: So Richard, I got a little joke for you, you might like this one. You too, Lewis. A Dude goes to the doctor. Doctor says: "Sir, you have to stop masturbating". The patient goes: "Why?" And the doctor goes: "because I'm trying to exam you".
Joke 3: A "negro," a Jew and a Nazi get in a Volkswagen ... *** no punch line but what a thought, and the possibilities are endless ***

"What's he need money for? Buy more guns? Hitler's underwear?"
