Awesome book! A must read! I enjoyed it from the first page to the last. I also recommend Q & A by the same author.

Excellent book. Not so much a police thriller as a social portrayal of contemparory Indian society. Funny, smart and very observant. One thing, though, left me wondering. The writer cleverly integrates a ton of real events to express his ideas. Pesticide in Coke, and Bhopal to illustrate corporate irresponsibility, Delhi pedestrian mowed down with impunity by a drunk but well-connected driver, Islamic terrorists, American intervention in Pakistan, etc. Yet arguably the most important development in India since the 90s, the rise of violent right-wing Hindu nationalism and it's presence in government, is never mentioned or referred to. Could this be due to the political career of the author? For anyone who wants to learn about the background for this book, the true story that inspired it, the very good film No one killed Jessica is available at the library as well!

Only the story of one of the characters prevents this from being a 5 star rating. Otherwise it's an excellent second effort from Vikas Swarup who unravels a delicious yarn of intersecting storylines. Definitely must read, and a must own if you can find a copy on sale!

Don't be intimidated by the thickness of this book. Vikas Swarup has a way of keeping you hooked and guessing from the beginning through to the very clever and satisfying end.

I agree. It was a terrific book. It was chosen by our book club and I did not wish to read it. I guess it is the evidence to why I am part of a book club, as it makes me read so many books I would never have picked up. A really great read. Highly recommend. Best "whodunnit" for me.

This is one of the best books I have read in along time and I read alot of books...a whole lot of books. I like the interlocking stories because they do not just interlock but he worked with dates. I also liked when he introduced me to an individual or described an individual indirectly in someone's story and then I read about the individual later in their own story...making me come to a realization that this was the person he was actually talking about before. I thought his use of phone conversations, diaries and the media was extremely brilliant plus I was completely surprised by the ending. This is a must read for EVERYONE who loves themselves a good book and even those who don't just so you can find out how a Man becomes Gandhi and then Ruby Gill-A woman...Brilliant Brilliant BOOK!
