After watching the extended cut of this film I pronounce the experience to be decidedly...average. I neither hated the film, its protagonist, or villain(s)...but at the same time I didn't end up with a whole lot of interest in or affection for any of the above, either. The best thing about it was probably Ryan Reynold's charm and charisma as Hal Jordan, plus a few stunningly rendered CGI sequences. The worst thing about it was the silly digitally-painted-on green mask on Reynold's face while he is in costume as the Green Lantern, in Blu-Ray high def it looked even phonier and was a major distraction.
On the whole I can see why they decided to shelve the character and franchise for the foreseeable future, though it's been announced that the Lantern will return in 2020.
Sadly, I presume that the motion picture's under-performance spelled the doom of the generally excellent Green Lantern Animated Series, which I highly recommend to anyone with an interest in the character.
