As a meditation on immortality, it's a little ironic that the post-grunge gothy glam rock sensibility at the center of the film has come to seem so dated already, & some of the songs the band plays really are kinda terrible. The further, more somber irony of Aaliyah's untimely passing isn't lost on me either, when so often she's the one lighting up the screen & stealing the scenes & trying to save this picture from the made-for-TV doldrums. Taken as individual moments there are definitely some worthwhile ones, like the jam session on the beach gone terribly wrong, holy cow. Otherwise it gets pretty campy at points, & the chemistry between Lestat & Akasha is more or less non-existent. Bonus material: Ozzfest meets Cirque de Soleil...! CR
