Honestly, I was a bit disappointed with this book. To me, it’s really obvious that it’s co-written as I found most characters acting out of character, especially Simon…which I find strange because the book is about him. Speaking of Simon, I honestly am not the biggest fan of Simon but I was willing to give the book a shot. I did like some things, like being given a glimpse of all the characters I loved after the final installment. I also LOVED the story with The Whitechapel Fiend and the second last story where Alec and Magnus adopt a baby. The other stories were alright. I pretty much liked the ones with either Tessa or Jem. Rating – 3/5. @Average_Bookworm of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare, is an official sequel to the Mortal Instruments series revolving around the character Simon Lewis, but is also a collection of short stories as well. While taking place in present times, it features stories told by characters in the book to Simon, ranging from stories taking place after Infernal Devices and ones taking place way before. Compared to the semi-disastrous Bane Chronicles, Shadowhunter Academy’s stories all have intriguing elements and you get to see the growth of a character throughout this book. It is one of the most important installments in the Shadowhunter Chronicles and is definitely a must read. 5/5 Stars. @SeraphinaWilliams of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board Tales From the Shadowhunter Academy was a great sequel to The Mortal Instruments. I urge other readers to read the rest of the series to know what's going on before they read this book. Reading this book, was like the ending of my version of the main story. It steered away from most of the other characters point of view and gave a new viewpoint that's very unique. Simon Lewis has developed a bunch of times. He was mortal, then he changed into a rat temporarily, then a vampire and finally, this was his chance to become one of the Angel's. He journeys into a re-opening academy for shadowhunters as he discovers a life he actually desires. This story, like the others in the series, made me laugh, cry and jump up in joy! This makes the series perfect in my version, as one of my favorite characters takes on a mission to find himself again. I also loved that it completely based on Simon's point of view, instead of switching POVs and it made me relate more to him. Thank you, Cassandra, for completing the happy ending I thought he should deserve. @EMBookWorm14 of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board TFTSA is a set of novellas that bridges the gap between two series and takes place over the course of two years and follows characters at The Shadowhunter Academy, which is a newly re-established school where shadowhunters are trained. While the characters are loveable and likeable as always, certain stories were a bit lacklustre and forgettable. They’re also repetitive at times. I enjoyed watching Simon’s character grow confidence in both his ability and his identity after losing his memories. I liked the parts that showed the academy in other ages such as the early 1900s, before it was closed and then reopened for when Simon is there in modern times. 3/5. @ClockworkReader of The Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board
