When I received PARADISE VALLEY I was so excited to sit down to another great C. J. Box 'Joe Pickett' novel. Love those books. But, hold on. This isn't a Joe Pickett novel. It's a Cassie Dewell sequel to THE HIGHWAY. The Lizard King is back and as despicable as ever. It took me a couple chapters to get over being miffed (my fault anyway for making an assumption), and then settled in for another really excellent read by Box. Some really interesting twists and turns and a real tour through North Dakota and Montana along with two trips into Yellowstone. The ending is well done with a really interesting twist. Have to say that not all male writers are good at writing with a female lead (and vice versa), but Box does a pretty credible job with Dewell and I do like her dogged excursion through lots of tenuous clues to locate the bad guy and save a couple hostages. Would like to have seen a more public punishment for the bad guys in law enforcement, but that's just me - and in this case, the end is the means. Highly recommend the book. Enjoy. PS - next Joe Pickett book will be out March 20, 2018 titled THE DISAPPEARED. Rats!
