Strong Poison

a Lord Peter Wimsey Mystery With Harriet Vane

Sayers's last 4 books, beginning with this one, are her best, I think. I've re-read all of them several times, which I have not done with the previous books. Never mawkish or saccharine, these 4 books, in addition to being excellent mysteries, are love stories; the great Peter Wimsey has at last fallen deeply and permanently in love. Harriet Vane is someone I wish I could know. She's a wonderful heroine, strong, fallible, and believable. Truly I wish I could know the whole bunch of them: Lord Peter, Bunter, Harriet, and Peter's strange and appealing family.
